The TOUR Championship was created to bring conclusion to the PGA TOUR season and to reward its top players by limiting the elite field to the TOUR’s 30 leading money winners. Until 1987, when the first Nabisco Championship of Golf (now called the TOUR Championship) was played at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, the TOUR lacked a tournament that would put an exclamation mark on the season.
In the years to come after the inaugural event in 1987 won by Tom Watson at Oak Hills, the TOUR Championship has been played at some of America’s most famous courses, including Pebble Beach Golf Links, Harbour Town Golf Links, Champions Golf Cub in Houston and Pinehurst No. 2. The tournament has also been played twice at San Francisco’s Olympic Club and twice at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The 2017 TOUR Championship made contributions over $2.5 million to charities, which primarily benefit the East Lake Foundation and The First Tee. Since 1998, the TOUR Championship has donated over $26 million to charity, both locally and nationwide. It is with our volunteer support and effort that we are able to give so much back to charity, the heart of the PGA TOUR
The Golf Channel and NBC networks will televise all the coverage of the TOUR Championship.
